Repeats and jumps not respected imnmported .xml files
Hi,
I opened a xml file created by Sibelius and no matter what I do, (changing repeat barlines, voltas' symbols) Musescore does not respect the jump to volta 2.
It keeps playing the bars under volta 1 and then proceeds to volta 2 bars.
Any tips ?
Thanks

No, not without seeing the xml file ;-)

Hi Jojo,
Thanks for your kind and swift reply :)
Just before I send you the file I would like to tell you what I've tried to do to workaround the issue.
Saved the xml as muse file
Opened the saved file
Copied the part with repeats and jumps
Pasted it into a new muse document
Created new repeats and voltas (since the previous were lost after the copy/paste operation)
It worked !!
Not sure if it's going to work for the whole piece
Anyway I'm attaching the file now
Thank you very much Ronda_piano_Muse.mscz

Just a quick reply: can you try the Dolet plugin in/with Sibelius to do the export and see whether it gives better results on MuseScore import? I've heard that it usually does.

Installed the dolet plugin, but it didn't do the job.
The repeat is done but the second time playback goes through first ans second ending bars :((
Thanks though

as not said (I have read more carefully)

In your MuseScore file, the anchor points of the first volta was set for only one measure. You want the first volta to encompass 2 measures.
See:

Have a listen to this:

Can you check whether the voltas are really correct, incl. playback, in Sibelius?

The file you send worked fine, thanks.
So did the file in sibelius that originated the xml and from which I saved msz version.
Going to check where I've gone wrong with the voltas signs ;)

Hi everyone. These days I have encountered several problems with the Repeats.
So I tried to compile an example with the 1.3 and it works
No more if I open it with 2.2.1, the Voltaìs properties are not saved.
Maybe already said, in case forget.

FYI, in the current MusicXML importer / exporter there are issues with multiple repeats. I suspect this is a duplicate of #270709: [MusicXML export] issues with coda and d.s. al coda.

Now I get it !!!
It doesn't matter if the length of the line encompasses the bars of 1rst ending or the second for that matter.
It all boils down to that tiny brown circle with a dotted line attached to a particular barline.
Once you get it pointing to the right barline everything goes fine.
It must be said though that the little brown ball is a stubborn creature and could only be moved with shift + arrows.
For someone used to write music manually I didn't pay attention to that pesky ball and chain ;)
Thanks a lot for your help

There has been a proposal to make that pesky ball and chain move with the line since this seems to be more intuitive for the users. Perhaps it will be implemented in a future version.

@Pe Suza... Welcome aboard.

Yes! Yes! Yes! ... and when you wrote music manually, I'll wager that the paper you wrote on never played the music back! ... ;-)
So...
Playback is the reason why MuseScore needs the "anchor point" of the volta's start/end.
This is from the manual: When you select a start or end handle, a dashed line appears connecting it to an anchor point on the staff. This anchor shows the position of the playback start or end point of the Volta.
Other problems with regards to accurate playback can be avoided by honoring the proper (temporal) positioning of musical elements. (Another example would be hairpins - i.e. crescendo/decrescendo)

Yes you are quite right , the paper only "played" inside my head ;) and my head was very lenient towards the exact length of the line marking the first or second ending :))
Now I've understood the role of the anchor points and I place them exactly whre I want them
Anyway, since those first experiences with voltas and voltas properties, endings and play count, I've searched and read (besides the manual of course) quite a number of articles , questions and watched a few videos too.
But I am still baffled with the philosophy/logic behind voltas, play count, repeat lists.
So my problem is:
I want Musescore to play three times a certain section of the music and jump to a second ending (or should i call it a fourth ending) when it reached the end of the third time.
How should I fix the parameters to get that done?
Thank you.
Best regards

...sorry forgot to include my sample. Here it goes...

almost, the play count needs to be 4, and the repeat list of the 2nd ending should not be a list, but just a 4 and the visible texts should match too

So you want a section to be played 4 times, with an ending played the first 3 times and an alternative ending played at the 4th time?
So you need an end repeat barline (and also a start repeat barline, unless you want the repeated section to start at the first measure), set the play count of the measure containing that end repeat barline to 4, have a "4." volta for the measure(s) after and a "1.-3." volta (repeatlist "1,2,3") for the measure(s) before.

It worked!!!
Thanks a lot
I think I'm grasping the concept behind volta properties, play cout an repeats.
Thanks again for your kind help.
