We can simply increase the volume for the unison hits for the upcoming update of MDL. This should make them pop as expected. Hope to push it out within the next few days.
Apologies for not being clearer in my description. Visually, they are indistinguishable. The performer cannot distinguish between unison bass and unison rim clicks.
Ok. Then, I'll just make it a feature request that the notehead change to an X (or something else) for faster authoring and increased legibility for performers. I don't love the beam solution, but it works.

Apologies for not being clearer in my description. Visually, they are indistinguishable. The performer cannot distinguish between unison bass and unison rim clicks.
Example:
In this score, the & of 2 is a unison rim click, but it appears identical to the notes around it.

Ah... if you look in the drumset palette, the unison hits are slash with step up, while unison rims are slash with stem down.
In this particular case, you would want to notate this by using multiple voices or split the beams.
More info on beams and voices can be found here:

Here is an alternative with large X notehead as unison. I think this works quite well. Easy to push out in next MDL update.

I'm just one person, but I believe that's a great solution.
