so actually they aren't gone (fhew, I almost lost about 2 years of work) they are labeled .mscz but wont open for some reason and wont show up when I go to the open score window. Please help me.

I suspect you are seeing backup files. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/file-formats#msczcomma. Your other .mscz files are somewhere on your computer.

To be clear: updating MuseScore never in any way touches any of your files. If you saved files on your computer, they are still exactly where you put them. You just need to remember what folder they are in - you are presumably looking in the wrong place. What folder are you looking at?
