Bug report -- MuseScore Crashes when deleting time signatures

• Oct 26, 2018 - 17:13

Perhaps this is only happening on my PC, but every time I click on a time signature and either press "Delete" or right-click/Cut, MuseScore instantly unloads. Restarting, it offers to restore the last session, which it does, but this happens each time I try to remove a time seignature.

This is a Windows 10 PC. Event Viewer reports the following:

Faulting application name: MuseScore.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x099a8010
Faulting module name: Qt5Core.dll, version: 5.4.2.0, time stamp: 0x777a675f

Which version of MuseScore? Click the menu Help->About... then click the square next to the version number to copy it, you can then paste it in your response.

In the attached file, you will see measures 1 & 3 both have 6/4 time signatures. The second is redundant, but if I try to delete any of the second set of time signatures, MuseScore crashes for me.

Some notes:

I've had this happen to me in at least one other project, but today was the first day I thought to report it. The attached file is an excerpt from a longer score. I deleted 99% of the original to focus in on the issue for this attachment, until I got down to what you see here. If I delete the notes out of measure #5, then delete the time signature, MuseScore does NOT crash for me. So I now suspect that the problem is in that unusual set of nested triplets... I have used them before without issue (Ives' "Unanswered Question" nests triplets like this), and as I say I've experienced the very rare crash in scores that do not have nested triplets, but at least in this specific case, whatever is causing my crashing "seems" to me to be coming from that measure.

I'm curious if this happens for others. Thanks in advance!

I agree with your suspicion about the nested triplets causing the problem. I was able to delete the time signature from the sample by cutting the contents of measure 5, removing the time signature then pasting the contents back to measure 5. I'm not sure how many other measures have this problem so I don't know how well this method will work in your score.

This issue doesn't need to be reported however because the problem does not exist in version 3-alpha.
