Fermatas
I know that I sound stupid from this, but I really can't figure out how to insert fermatas. Can anyone help me out?

Select the note and double click the fermata or drag the fermata TO THE NOTE you want it to be related to. The note will change colour.
See the handbook: Articulations and ornaments .
Fermatas are available in the palette under "Articulations and Ornaments". With the Advanced setting you can also insert short and long fermatas.
And you don't sound stupid. This happens to everybody. I used to have no idea how to delete measures.

Everyone had to learn one day, so don't think you sound stupid. Even hardened pros had to know their way through the learning process. :)
I had this problem too but I took the advice from other comments and it totally worked!
Is it just me or the Fermata doesn't hold any different as any other note as like another program I use.(StaffPad) holds it for just a few seconds longer, just to know it's working.

When you click on the fermata look at the inspector. It will indicate "time stretch". Here you can adjust the length of the fermata.

Why doesn't Musescore 4 have "fermata above" where it would usually be at Articulations? Is it placed somewhere else? I don't see it in ...more.

Oh nevermind I see it now, it has moved to "Breaths & Pauses" for MuseScore4.

I clicked on it - what is the inspector - I see no such selection available as "time stretch"

The inspector is the window that opens when you press F8.
