Automatically prevent short staves from filling out end of line?
I hate to even put in a feature request... been using Musescore for years and for free, but I've always wanted a way to automatically prevent a staff from stretching to fill out the end of the line (even when it's not the last staff in the song). Until I discovered this thread (https://musescore.org/en/node/267285) today I didn't know it could be done at all. Now I'm wondering if it could be simplified.

Normal music has measures spread out evenly on every system or staff. You are asking for an abnormal layout. MuseScore gives you the freedom to do this, but does not do it automatically.

I understand and thanks fo the input. I've run into people who can follow a lead sheet, but who won't notice a 2-bar line when it's spread across the page.

add horizontal frames to make system narrower?

Yes, that was the solution in the thread I found, and it worked. This isn't a big deal, but would be convenient and helpful.

The real question to me is, why have a line with only two bars if not at the end of a song? Before a DS maybe, and in that case, then the frame is indeed the way to go. It's an unusual situation, so it makes sense it takes explicit steps to override the normal behavior.

Horn parts, two separate six-bar parts that are cued Instead of being a specific number of measures apart. Or lead sheets that are short enough to fit two on a page. Lots of uses, actually.

Sure, but the point is, the vast majority of sytens should auto fill. Probably.less than 1% of systems overall (other than last systems) would not. Hence, the default is what it is, and the method for overriding it exists.
