Manually adding a whole rest in 3/4 time in order to add a chord symbol

First, my apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I couldn't find it after searching. Please feel free to reply with a link to an existing thread if there is one...

I need to place a chord symbol above a bar of rest in a 3/4 time lead sheet. In order to put the chord there, it seems I need to manually add a whole rest to the bar (MS won't let me add a chord symbol to a bar where a whole rest has been "auto-populated" in the absence of notes). When I select the whole note length value ("7") and press "0" to create a manual rest, MS instantly switches the selected note value to a half note + a dot and inserts a dotted half rest instead. Of course, all the auto-populated rest bars show whole rests as they should. How can I make this bar display a whole rest with a chord symbol? Do I need to use a hide function somehow (add a random note in voice 2 and then hide it, leaving the original automatic whole rest unaltered in voice 1)?
