I loaded the new update to Musescore 3.0 yesterday onto my Mac computer and I was unable to use the program because the program consistently crashed.

Try: /Applications/MuseScore\ 3.app/Contents/MacOS/mscore -w
run and open preferences, disable start center.
But I don't know if it'll work.

Same here. It crashes repeatedly.

Did Jojo and Shoichi's info not help?

Eventually it did. Thanks.
I am in trouble here, please help!
I updated to 3.04 and it crashed and trashed both my application and the open file. I removed the application from my MAC and started over and that did not help - the application crashes instantly upon opening.
So I really need to finish my project and I cannot seem to find a non-crashing version. I there a link to an older version that I may use until this is fixed PLEASE!!

It has been reported here that starting MuseScore by clicking your score in Finder works around the crash. You can then also disable the Start Center in Edit / Preferences and then you can start it normally as well.
So I tried to re-load MuseScore2, and the download and opening of the application worked - but unfortunately the old application will not allow access to your Musescore-Files until the an update is performed .... Now I am back to a crashed version again .... gees
Same here. I'm on Mac OS 10.14.3
I just saw Marc's note. He's right. If I double-click a saved MuseScore file, MuseScore launches without crashing. Once MuseScore is up and running, File: Open... seems to work normally without causing crashes.

Please explain for clarity....
You wrote:

also:
If I double-click a saved MuseScore file, MuseScore launches without crashing.
What is the precise difference in your actions to cause these two dissimilar outcomes?

The latter doesn't open the startcenter
And that is the culprit for the crash on Mac

I agree with your statement.
So, as Timborino wrote:
Point #1:
If I double-click a saved MuseScore file, MuseScore launches without crashing.
Of course, no Start Center is invoked.

So...
How exactly does one open MuseScore with a saved file to cause the crash?

You probably need a score that triggers a bug

Sorry to have caused confusion. I did edit my reply a few minutes after I posted it. I also might have contradicted myself. It looks like the problem is in the StartCenter. I don't think I have a bad score. All my scores work just fine once I get MuseScore launched successfully.
If MuseScore is not running, I can launch it successfully by double-clicking a saved score. If I try to launch MuseScore specifically, it always crashes, whether or not I try to open a document concurrently in the StartCenter.
If I posted something contradictory, just ignore it. I hope I made it clear this time. I appreciate all the MuseScore volunteers who are concerned about this problem and want to fix it.
