Add the option to disable the insertion of extra beats in individual measures.
As a composer of common practice music, I find that I never need to create irregular measures, and I frequently find myself accidently inserting extra beats when inputting notes, and an option to prevent such inconveniences would be useful to me.

Just don't use this new feature then, but just the normal regular note entry mode

Even in the normal note input mode, after for example, zooming in, because I happened to be pressing CTRL it still inserted an extra beat. I also am used to holding down CTRL while inputting notes so I can immediately press "Z" if I want do undo it quickly.

Are you by any chance holding down CTRL while inputting notes with the mouse, rather than the keyboard (A-G)?

Correct.

I'd suggest unlearning the habit of holding Ctrl; it's not that hard to press it when you need to undo something, and Backspace serves that function as well while in note input mode. But you can always clear the shortcuts for the insert commands in Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts/

Thank you, however I cannot find the shortcut for the insert command in the preferences.

Type "Insert" into the search box at the bottom of the window. Also, the commands are listed in alphabetic order, so you can just scroll down to the I's.
