How do I use the same sample for notes on multiple lines?
I'm using the MDL Drumline extension to write drumline music. I'd like to write cymbal or snare splits as two separate lines but the sounds can only be applied to a single line. Is there a way to assign the same sample to multiple notes so I can put them on separate lines?
Edit: I got it to work! I had to go into the MDL files and add it into both the instrument file and the SFZ file but now I have multiple copies of the same sounds. It's a bit tedious but it works great.

Using the mixer you can assign any sound to any staff. Keep in mind that, for example, making two snare drums have the same sound will only make the sound louder when they play in unison, not like there are two drums playing.

I guess I wasn't super clear about what I wanted to do. I'd like to write splits on the same staff. I can write them how I'd like them to appear but I'd like each voice to sound the same. Is there a way I can write it this way and have it play back correctly?

I'm not familiar with how sfz soundfonts work with drumsets. This is what MDL uses. If you were talking sf2 or sf3 soundfonts (like the MuseScore defaults) I would say no way. You would have to use separate staves. You can only assign one note to each sound.

There are plenty of unassigned notes in the soundfont for each instrument so I assume the only way would be to edit the soundfont itself. I'll do some more digging to see if that will work.

If there are multiple snare drum sounds, like there are tenor drum sounds, then you could assign each sound to a separate notes.

There are plenty of different sounds but they're all for different effects. Currently I'm trying to duplicate the main snare hit sound so I have two sounds to work with.

And I believe you are on the right track to duplicate the sounds and assign them to unused notes.

I did finally get it to work. I had to go into both the .xml and .sfz files to duplicate and edit the new sounds but it works. It's not a quick fix by any means though.
