Timpani Rolls and Hits
Is there any way to have a mid-staff channel change (i.e., using staff text to change the channel) using a different soundfont? For example, the soundfont I use has two channels reserved for the timpani (hit and roll) and I would like to change the timpani sound from hit to roll in a certain measure. Can I do this with staff text, and if so, how do I?

I have staff text I have put into one of my palettes. I use the word hit for hits and roll for rolls. I set the proper channels on these texts and then made this text invisible before I put it in the palette so it is light gray colored in the palette and invisible when I apply it. BTW, this is exactly how pizz. and arco work from the text palette except they didn't make it invisible.

So, how exactly did you make the staff texts and how did you assign channels to them?

This is exactly the point I've gotten to. The problem is that I can't change anything; the only channel that shows up is "normal" and nothing else. What do I do from here?

Ah, you said you had both channels. I took that to mean you are using the Aegean Symphony Orchestra instruments and sound font. You must change the timpani to the ASO instrument to get the extra channel. If you have ASO as the first sound font, the sounds will be assigned to the timpani automatically when you do this. If you need ASO then see https://sites.google.com/view/hed-sounds/aegean-symphonic-orchestra, the link is rather hidden after the word "Download:"

Hmmm, something must be amiss. I'm quite certain I'm using the ASO Timpani sound yet I still only get one channel. Is there something else that I have to add, or...?

Do you have the aso-instruments.xml in the Score tab of preferences? Did you change the instrument to the Timpani under the ASO "genre"? The first must be done for the second to work and the second must be done to get the second channel.
