MDL Rail Brackets
The MDL Rail instrument does not accept brackets, so I am unable to bracket it with a keyboard instrument. There are brackets in some of the templates, but only on some of the keyboard instruments.

It's not just the MDL Rail instruments, but all single-staff-lined instruments. See #290409: Stave brackets disappear on a 1 line percussion staff and the workaround mentioned there (temporarily make your instrument have 2 staff lines)
