Musescore 3 No Playback

• Apr 4, 2019 - 03:42

I'm currently running Musescore 3.0.5 on my Windows 10 Laptop and whenever I try to use my bluetooth headphones, I encounter an issue in which there is no playback playing. Here's the troubleshooting I've tried thus far:

1: Factory reset of Musescore (nothing)
2: Uninstalling and reinstalling (nothing)
3: Updating windows (there were updates, but didn't help)
4: Updating audio drivers (nothing to update)
5: "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" (already checked)
6: Making sure I wasn't in edit mode (I am not)
7: Making sure that Musescore isn't muted (it's not)
8: Going into synthesizer (synthesizer is grayed out, as are all the playback buttons)
9: Going into I/O (All of the pop-down boxes are blank, and clicking on them does nothing)
10: Starting my headphones up and THEN opening Musescore (nothing)

I had no problems with Musescore yesterday, and since then, all I've done is some C++ CLI coding in Visual Studio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said: "9: Going into I/O (All of the pop-down boxes are blank, and clicking on them does nothing)"...

It should not be that way.

It seems like MuseScore could not to handle your audio card, which is... "rare" (at least).

Do you see the "PortAudio" and/or "JACK Audio Server" options on the "I/O" tab? ???

Regarding #5...
See:
https://musescore.org/en/node/96811

It states:
In case of interference with other programs, esp. on Windows, go into your soundcard configuration from Control Panel and ensure that the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" in the Advanced tab of both Playback and Recording is unticked.

In addition to unticking "exclusive control" in Windows Sound, and making sure Port Audio is visible and checked, go to i/o in preferences and click "restart all audio and midi devices." I have Windows 10 and one other possibility is that you may have to choose in the sound control panel which device to set as the "default communications device." This might work with Bluetooth.

Yep, Musescore works with the speakers...

So...
Open MuseScore and play through the laptop's built-in speakers.
Now the playback buttons are no longer grayed out, yes?
So what does the I/O tab in Preferences now say?
Do the pop-down boxes work?
Can you select headphones in 'Device'?

I have the same problem.
Muse score doesn't work if my bluetooth headphones are connected.
All PortAudio boxes are empty, I can't even uncheck it.
All other windows apps work perfectly, audio is playing as expected in my headphones.
If I disconnect the bluetooth headphones and restart musescore, everything's fixed and I can play sound through the speakers.

On my W10 with v 3.4.2, restart computer. Pair headphones. Start MuseScore. If headphones don't work, I don't think there are any buttons you can push at this point to make them work. If they do work, you will see them as the default choice in I/O because they are your computers audio output. But you must pair the headphones before starting MuseScore. I don't know if 3.0.5 works the same way.
