The articulation "Muted(closed)" messes up tie playback.
When applying the articulation "Muted(closed)" (+) to note that ties to another note, only the former note will be played, and the latter is silenced. AFAIK this only happens to this particular articulation.
Also, in the piano roll editor, the duration seems to be correct, and there's seems to be no workarounds aside from replacing it with some other equivalent notation
(e.g. + ━━━━━┓).

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't think that notation was meant for wind instruments, rather for stringed instruments like guitar, where the desired effect does indeed involve a shortening of the note.

When writing for stopped horns (where the players stuck their hand into the bell), the exact same notation is used. The notation is also used for wah-wah-muted trumpets to indicate when to "close" or "open" the mute by hand. Both of these circumstances imply no shortening of the durations.

In theory it should work to disable the "Play" property of the articulation in the Inspector, but apparently that doesn't do the job in this case. That seems like a bug. I guess we should also consider adding non-playing versions of the articulations to the palette, although it would no doubt be confusing to have two versions of the the same symbol. Anyhow, you can add a non-playing version yourself - just add one to your score, turn off Play, and Ctrl+Shift+drag it back to the palette. But again, it won't actually work because of the bug. And of course, I have no confidence the playback effect is correct for the instruments it does apply to.
I would encourage you to submit a formal bug report to the issue tracker (see Support menu above).
Meanwhile, workaround is to add the symbol from the Symbols palette (pres "Z" to display) instead of from Articulations.

Thanks for #301677: Unticking the "Play" checkbox of the articulation "Muted(closed)" does not disable its effect. ;-)
