Better feedback for impatient user
I would like to suggest two messages for the waiting times described below.
1. opening file ... / importing file ...
2. initializing sound system
Start Musescore 3.4, open musicxml file 2_Gloria.mxl
5 seconds pass without any action on the display
when the score appears, I can enter notes, but they do not sound.
Fan goes on,
10 seconds later notes start to sound.
Windows 10 Intel Core i7-7500U, 2x 2.70GHz, 16 GB RAM.

For one step towards that, see https://musescore.org/en/node/303903
To avoid the delay before sound/playback starts, use an SF2 soundfont, SF3 ones (like the default one) need to get uncompressed in RAM first, this is done in the background (unlike SFZ one, with delay the entire startup), hence the Fan spinning up ;-).

Thanks to the great new Musescore feature MIDI output I was able to get rid of the sf3 soundfont altogether.
Here are my steps to connect Musescore MIDI out to the Aria player with Garritan instruments.
Some of the modifications require a restart of Musescore.
1. Download and install this virtual MIDI cable: https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html
2. Connect a dummy loopmidi cable to Musescore MIDI in. MIDI out selection is disabled in Preferences - I/O if no MIDI in device is available.
3. Connect a loopmidi cable from Musescore MIDI out to Aria player MIDI in.
4. Delete sf3 soundfont in virtualiser view.
5. take note of the channel numbers you see in the mixer, assign instruments in Aria Player accordingly.
Choir rehearsal in times of social distancing is much more fun with perfect sound:-)

Thanks for this...but, I'm totally confused! I got step 1... but Step 2 is beyond me. Where is the Musescore MIDI in? Is this dummy loopmidi cable a virtual cable? My loopMIDI program doesn't appear to have any sorts of cables - or settings anywhere! (Maybe it didn't download/install correctly?) And my Aria player (standalone) doesn't appear to have any MIDI outs either? Any help? I'm using Musescore 3.6.2.
