How to write a 8:5
Hi!
I am trying to write some advanced rhythm exercises which require quite complex tuplets. I cannot find the way to write, lets say, an 8:5. That is, 8 sixteenth notes in the space of 5. I have tried selecting the 5 16's and pressing 8, but weirdness ensues...
Cheers

Sorry not very precise help as I m on my smartphone, but have a look at the page tuplet in the handbook on this site, you will find the necessary instructions to enter any kind of tuplet

ooops! …I forgot the file attachment:

You definitely can't create tuplets by first entering regular notes, they need to be tuplets to begin with. So, figure out the total duration of your tuplet, select it, then use Add / Tuplets / Other.
The trick here is that you can't usually select a duration of 5 anything. So the usual trick is to first create a measure of 5/16, then select the full measure rests, create the tuplet on that, then copy/paste the result.

Oh..that alone pretty much renders MS unusable for my contemporary music stuff. Any plans on developing the function?

No specific ones afaik

No specific plans indeed, but the workaround mentioned works quite well and doesn’t take long to make part of a usable workflow.
