Tied Note's are broken
When I tie a note, the note itself becomes the full duration as if it were a single note in one bar... Here's an example: I tied a half note to another half note in 4/4. The attached image is the result. Clearly, it logically makes no sense. I don't know why it's happening and I don't know how to fix it :/

Better attach the *.mscz file and specify which version of MuseScore and OS.
I'm using MuseScore 3 on Windows 64-bit
Maybe you accidentally switched to insert-mode as input?
Look here: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input#note-input-modes

No, I checked that's not it unfortunately.

Your picture (end result) is no good without a description of exactly what note you entered first, what note you tied it to, the method of adding the tie, whether you are using voices, etc. -- i.e., the precise steps you followed to arrive at your result.
Attaching the score, or an excerpt, (rather than a picture) is the best forum practice and will enable someone here to look "under the hood" to see what's going on.
Then please share a score with your start situation and describe, step by step what we should click on / which keys to press to make this go wrong.
Could it be your enabled the experimental option in Format / Style / Score, "Display note values across measure boundaries"? Or maybe started from a score you got from someone else who enabled that option?
