We’re about a month away from the release of MuseScore 4.2, which means that now is a great time to help test all the fantastic new features that will be included in this release:

Guitar

• Support for alternate string tunings
• All-new system for inputting bends and customising their playback
  • Bend playback currently requires SoundFont or VST. We’ll update this post when support for bends is added in Muse Sounds.

Parts

• Better synchronisation between the score and the parts

Alternate string tunings for guitar

We’re working on a new ‘string tuning’ element, which will be accessible via the Guitar palette. This will provide an easy way to specify new tunings for multiple strings and (optionally) have those tunings displayed in the score. You’ll be able to choose from a list of preset

We’d really love to get MuseScore’s UI translated into as many languages as possible. If your first language is not English, please consider helping translate MuseScore into your native tongue.

We are delighted to announce our first major update to MuseScore 4 since it launched last year.

This update includes a significant upgrade to our playback engine (making the app run more efficiently) plus new features for harp and guitar notation, the ability to customise ornaments, new auxiliary channel strips in the mixer, and hundreds of engraving improvements and bug fixes, plus much more!

UPDATE - March 13, 2023: MuseScore 4.0.2 has now been released.

This patch release release fixes loads of issues, and also includes some important usability improvements as well as a ton of engraving enhancements.

MuseScore is taking part in Google Summer of Code 2022, and this year we're joined by contributors¹ on two projects:

Harp Pedal Diagrams

This project will provide diagrams that tell harpists which pedals they need to press to play notes with the correct accidentals. This functionality is provided by a plugin in MuseScore 3, but the aim is to provide it as a built-in feature in MuseScore 4.1 or 4.2. This is important as it will eventually enable playback support
