Eighth note bar with a rest

I need help writing my music. There is a part in it where I want there to be an eighth note, a sixteenth rest, and a sixteenth note, while the two notes are connected by a bar even though there is a rest in between

Starting with the intial state you described:

What you do is select that 16th rest, and then in the left panel go to "Beam Properties" and click the beam that is called "Beam Middle", then should do as you want:
