solo guitar
if I am producing a solo guitar composition and we'll say I have a quarter note in the upper register or anywhere else it doesn't matter. I cannot have a whole note or a half note or any other value other than that quarter note. if it is be played at the same time- they all have to be the same value. Is there a way around this or is this something they haven't worked out yet.

I have used the voices to no avail, still the same problem meaning if they're structured as a chord they must have the same value.

If you want two notes of different value starting at the same point, you need to use voices .
If you want two notes of the same value starting at the same point, you can use chords. See Note entry , enter pitch

You have to enter the notes in *different* voices. Like the whole note in voice 1, then the other notes in voice 2. And you do have to read the section in the handbook and follow the instructions carefully.
