Stems
How can I make the stems face one direction, combining soprano, alto on the treble staff and tenor and bass on the bass staff. It is very messy when each part has it's own stem.

It is the norm to give each part its own stem except in special cases where most of the parts have the same rhythm (eg, hymns). In those cases, simply don't use two voices, but instead put both notes on the same stem - ie, create a chord as described in the Handbook under "Note input".
