Parentheses around continued ottava lines
I have someone that is proofreading piano solos that I've notated in musescore. She has requested that I put parentheses around the '8' in the ottava line when the line extends to a new system. Is there some way to do this? I've searched and haven't been able to come up with anything. I did find parentheses in the master palate but it's for the 8va sign, not the '8' at the beginning of the ottava line.
Thanks in advance,
Shoshana

Right-click, Line Properties, adjust the text in the Continue field.

Thank you, Isaac. I had already tried that, but didn't know how to adjust the text. What do I put in there?

Just enclose what's there in parentheses. Result is like this:

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Now, how do I fix it so it's always set that way?

There is no way to apply those changes to all ottavas at once (in MuseScore 2, anyway; if #118086: Eliminate most "Properties" dialogs in favor of Inspector for MuseScore 3 goes through, you'll be able to make this change in the Inspector and apply it to all selected ottavas in MuseScore 3). However, you can create a custom workspace with this edited ottava in the Lines palette. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/custom-palettes.

I would also like to know if there is a way to change default, as I always want my 8va lines to say'8va' and my 8ba lines to say'8ba'.

I'd like to know this also!

I guess you mean 8va and 8vb, not 8ab

Style > General... > Hairpins, Volta, Ottava > uncheck "Numbers only."
To make the change "permanent":
Create an ottava, right-click and select Line Properties then add the brackets around 8 in the Text box of the "continue" part. Now [Ctrl][Shift]-drag this line to a custom palette. Next time you need a similar ottava, select from that palette.
