Pitch for Unpitched percussion

• Aug 31, 2016 - 06:33

Thank you in advance for your help. I have searched the forum and handbook for help, but cannot seem to find anything addressing this specific issue.

I would like to transcribe parts with three "congas" that have different pitches. Is there a way to "tune" each staff to a different pitch. I have tried the drum editor and staff options and have found nothing that will work for me.

In version 1.3 I found a work around where I changed the pitch of the notes, once they were laid on the page. However in version 2.0 it appears that I cannot change more than one note at a time making the task very labor intensive. Even when a note is copied its tuning reverts to default nullifying the ability to copy and paste.

The reason I need this is that I make arrangements with Afro-Brazilian elements and rhythms from Candomblé which use drums in different pitches. (Rum, Rumpi, and Lé). Having a midi track where the 3 parts are distinguishable is very helpful for rehearsal.

Thank you again.

Are you saying you have a sopecial soundfont that proviees more than just the standard pitches for congas, and you wish to be abel to use these notes? If so, and you know their MIDI pitch numbers, you can use the Edit Drumset facility (see Handbook under "Drum notation") to assign these MIDI pitches to specific staff lines.

If you are saying you are using the standard conga sounds but as trying to modify their pitches by altering the tuning, the way to do this is using the Inspector - the "Tuning" field. You can modify multiple notes at once by selecting the notes (only) first. To select only notes, select a range then press the "Notes" button in the Inspector to limit the select to just the notes.

Thank you for your help. Being able to select just the notes using the Inspector has solved the issue for me. As much as I would like to use a special soundfont with everything I need, I think this is something beyond what I am capable of at this moment although I would imagine there would be a more comprehensive solution to what I'm trying to accomplish. For my purposes, however, just changing tuning in the Inspector will work wonders now that you have shown me how to modify multiple notes at once.
