Welcome Nancy, I don't see why not. Someone writes a poem and someone else puts it in music.
Could you make a more detailed example?
But with MuseScore, normally, the lyrics are added to the notes:

Thank you. I mean I want the notes not to be linked if they are related to different syllable. For instance in Purcell, Love shall fill all, a-all the places of care : Lo-ve shall fill all = 5 single notes because the 5 syllables are sung on five different notes. A-all = two notes linked because one syllable is sung on two notes, then again five notes without links between them.
I hope I was clearer.
I have no problem to enter the lyrics.
Thank you again.

Hmm, well I don't see 2 syllables in "Love", but still it is possibloe to write 5 independant notes and add the lytrics "Lo-ve shall fill all" to them. As is writing 2 notes and attaching "A-all" to them (presumably connecting the the 2 notes with a slur?)
So I guess I still don't understand what your questoin or problem is?
Maybe you can attach a file, either a PDF or Images of thewhat your are trying to achieve or an attampt at a MuseScore score?
I found http://www.drdrbill.com/downloads/music/Purcell/Orpheus/Happy/Happy.pdf, is that the piece you are talking about?

Or if you're talking about having the notes beamed or not, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/beam.
Select your notes and make them single notes.

Thank you. That was it. Il didn't know the word in English and I didn't know how to use that function either. It works.
Of course, I'm doing this all the time and ever since I started using MuseScore
If I understand correctly, you're talking about a syllable-based beaming of 8th notes and shorter. If so you could take a look at my Traditional Vocal Beaming plugin which provides a (basic) automation for this problem.
In case you need more information on how to install/activate/use plugins, there's a section about Plugins in the handbook.

I like this plug-in. Thanks!
