Controlling colors and icon size for main panel
Is there a way to control the size or color of the icons in the main panel (It's at the top of the screen. I've attached a screen shot, in case I have the name wrong.)? I think that the icons too small and that the colors, black on light gray, don't provide enough contrast. There are controls for the appearance of the score and canvas, but I can't find a way to control the appearance of the panel.

Try this:
Go to menu item: Edit -> Preferences then on the 'General' tab in the 'Style' section you can select 'Dark' in the drop down box.
The control for icon size can be found immediately below. You increase the number in the right-side spin box (default is 24) to make the icons larger.

Thanks very much. Changing the size entries to 36;36 makes the icons much easier to see. Can you tell me what the functions of the two boxes are; they appear to be undocumented and interact in a complex way. Unfortunately changing 'Light' vs 'Dark' in the drop down box doesn't make any visible difference to my display.

As far as I can tell, the first box appears to stretch the distance between icons. The second increases the icon size.
For 'Light' vs 'Dark' you may have to restart MuseScore after you make the change.
Regards.

You put your finger on two issues currently open in the tracker: #10722: Label fields for width and height of toolbar icons in Preferences > General and #117146: Changing UI theme in Preferences requires restart. But Jim's reply is correct.
