OK now what do I do?
I am entering Moon River by Henry Mancini, from a sheet. It is written is 3/4 time. The melody line is fine..but the piano accompaniment doesn't really fit although written in 3/4 also, it is more like 5/4 or 5-1/2/4 I need to change the piano part without changing the melody line is there an easier way to do this?
The program by it's design is supposed to be correct, following the rules of music.
I tried doing a few bars as pick-up measures, but that changed everything. After the lead in, the melody in the first measure consists of a dotted half note, the treble clef part of the piano part is aslo a dotted half note, the bass clef notes are like this
dotted half, eighth, quarter quarter, for a while then changes to dotted half, eighth, half (no dot), then to half, eighth, half, quarter this adds up to less than 6 like 5-1/2 counts. there is an eighth rest above the first note in each bar with a couple of exceptions.

Any chance of attaching a scan of the origina?
What you have outlined sounds extremely weird!

Read up on using multiple "voices" ( http://musescore.org/en/handbook/voices ). The bass piano section has two voices.

OK that makes sense, I am still new, but learning, I have used voices before, but it was more clear to me then.

Thanks for the input. It will take a long time to enter the notes, rests and second voice, using the mouse, so far I have bars entered, it sounds real cool!

Try to learn to use your computer keyboard instead oif the mouse, it's often quicker.

I concur. The mouse method of input, while convenient, is very slow. Once you learn the keys for the notes, rests and other modifiers, the keyboard method is much faster.

Finally done, it sounds absolutely great, I am using the fluid synth sf2 pack, I have to admit after listening to classical and other types of music for years, the piano part sounds a lot like a Steinway. There is one particular note that stands out, with a slightly different tonal quality, hence my opinion.
After I relax for a bit, and let my mousing hand catchup I will post this on MuseScore.com.

Glad youi've got it done :)
Be aware that Moon River isn't yet out of copyright and posting it on MuseScore, com could make them vulnerable to a copyright law suit.
