Quicker way to insert articulations and other musical symbols
Hello all,
I would like a new version of Musescore to have a faster and more efficient way of inserting articulations (like staccato) into the score. Finale has this number system that you can press a key and it puts whatever articulation the corresponds to that key into the score. This is helpful when a lot of notes need to have a certain type of articualtion.
Thank you,

I too would love to have keyboard shortcuts for things like this. But if you aren't aware, you can add as many staccato dots or other symbols as you want all at once by first selecting the notes (ctrl-click each, or click one then shift-click the last), then double click the symbol in the palette.

And stacatto is one of the two articulatuions you can define a shortcut for. Check Preferences -> Shortcuts
I found an even quicker way. For the score I'm writing, I have a very long run of 8th notes. (Well, 6 decent runs) that I needed to be completely staccato. I did this in about 20 seconds.

how.
Using control?

I'm sorry, I meant to specify, I just forgot. You use shift.
I had a run of notes, I clicked the first one, held shift, and clicked the last one. This selected all notes in between as well. Control only picks one note at a time. After all notes were selected, I double clicked the articulation.
Hi, I'm new to this software. It seems wonderful but I am trying to arrange something to a deadline so I thought I'd ask if anyone could tell me how to alter (in particular, delete) articulation after you've already written it in....I want to get rid of 1 staccatto dot. Any ideas??

Select it and press Del. Zoom if you can't click on it.

select the note with the staccato you want to remove and use the same keystrokes as you used to insert the staccato. On my XP machine I press Shift and . (period).
More generally, it would be great if every musical symbols could be associated with a shortcut key

Yes, I also think the same. You are right!

Eventually, this is our goal. But meanwhile, do be sure you learn about all the shortcuts that are available. For instance, the originall post here (from over seven years ago!) mentions staccato, but that does have a shortcut and has for several years now: Shift+S. Also Shift+N for tenuto, Shift+V for sforzato, Shift+O for marcato. See for example https://masteringmusescore.com/go/shortcuts/
