accidental (Parens)?

I am converting a handwriten score to musescore. There are notes that have () around them and i was told (Classical guitar) that these notes were to be fingered but not played. WHen i play the score i have completed so far, the player actually plays the notes in parens. Am i using the wrong notation ro is there some setting i need for the player, or is it just the way the player reads the score?
