Can't Open File
Howdy, everyone.
Was working on a piece (was actually listening to it in playback mode) when my laptop's battery died. Plugged it in, restarted and tried to open the file and got this message:
Reading file failed: No such file or directory
Restarted the computer again and same thing.
If I open MS and try to open the file through "open recent," nothing happens.
Using MuseScore 1.1 on Mac OSX 10.5.8
Any suggestions? I REALLY don't want to lose this...

I hope someone with a Mac responds as I have no idea where session backups are kept. I can certainly help with Windows. You could search the forums as well.

In MuseScore 1.1 on a mac, session files are kept in
~/Library/Application Support/MusE/MuseScore/If you check this directory you will likely find a lot of mscz files. One of them could me yours.

When I check Application Support folder, there isn't a /MuseE/...file.
A screenshot is attached. Any thoughts?

Check in your home directory (it's the meaning of ~)

Thanks so much. Knowing I don't have to try (and fail!) to input an entire movement from memory just made everything better.

You should backup your work ;) For example by posting it on http://musescore.com (you can post a non public score)

Hello friendly Musescore community
A very similar thing happened to me. I am using MuseScore 1.1, and Mac OS 10.4.11. I had literally just finished a score (which I had saved and opened many times over the course of the past week). I went to save it, and it wouldn't allow me to. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the dialogue box that came up, but I think it had something to do with my disk space being to full. (I only have a little over 1 GB of memory of free space when I turn on my computer, and for some reason, upon using my computer for a day or so, that number widdles down to zero KB until I restart it, and it goes back to 1 GB. This has not lead to any major problems so far, so I don't imagine it would be related). So I restarted my computer, figuring I would lose only a few minor, last minute changes at most (since I hadn't made many changes since the previous save). But when I turned my computer back on, all of the files from the "recently opened" menu in MuseScore were gone. I tried to open it from MuseScore with the "open. . ." menu, but when I selected the file and clicked "open", nothing happened. Finally I quit Musescore and tried opening the file from Finder. And I got the same error message listed in the first post on this thread. I even tried opening all the backup files, as suggested by you guys. I opened up backup files of ALL of my other scores, and there was ONLY one backup file left would not open, and it gave me the same error message. The backup files have funny titles so I'm not sure, but based on the creation date, I'm guessing it was a backup for the score in question. I noticed that under the info for the original file, it said that it was created today (which is not true, it was created about a week ago, and I have been saving and re-opening it ever since), and also that it takes up zero KB on the disk.
Sorry this was so long, but I wanted to make sure I gave all the details. I'm going to redo the whole score (since I need it for tomorrow). I would like to hear suggestions for future reference though. If there are no proposed solutions, could someone at least explain any possible causes for this so that I could avoid it happening again?
