Scoop Playback

• Nov 30, 2016 - 19:12

In my score I have a scoop attached to a note for electric guitar. When I play it back I don't hear the scoop up to the note. I've selected the scoop but I don't see anything in Inspector to change its playback properties.

To see if you can get something like, try to add a Bend (articulations and ornaments palette), right click it -> Bend properties, then press V to make it invisible

Scoops and so forth should be implemented without having to submit a feature request for each item that isn't currently supported in playback but exists in notation. In 3.0 the programmers should make things such as this just happen.

It's important to keep in mind, though, that the primary purpose of MuseScore remains *notation*, with playback very much secondary. No doubt it would be possible to get every single notation to play back if the entire development team stopped working on notation of MsueScore and instead turned their attention to playback, but this would be very unsatisfactory to those who depend on MuseScore for its primary purpose of notation and have a right to expect timely improvements in that area.

Also, keep in mind that the people who volunteer their time to work on MuseScore mostly do so because they have *interest* and *expertise* in things relating to notation; many of us really have no great insight into how to make various playback-oriented things happen and would not be the right people to work on playback even if we didn't feel that notation was a higher priority (which most of us do, or we wouldn't be volunteering our time to work on notation software).

Many of the playback improvements that *have* been added in recent times are due to the involvement of new people who *do* have interest and expertise in the area of playback. So 3.0 *will* have considerable improvement - some of which is already available in the nightly builds, some of which is still pending. We can always use more volunteers with the necessary interest and expertise. Without such new blood, it's probably not realistic to expect a whole lot of further advances in the playback area for 3.0.
