Triplets

• Dec 11, 2016 - 17:17

Hi. I'm kinda new to MuseScore, for creating sheet music at least. I've gotten the basic notes down. The only one so far that I can't figure out is how to put triplets into a piece. I'm arranging a piece that requires a lot of triplets in a section, and I can't find the triplet input. Any help is appreciated!

When I am entering lots of triplets (like four groups per measure for several measures) I find it easiest to create the first triplets as rests and then select all three triplets and press "R" many times to Repeat the pattern. Then go back and enter the notes.

Eh?

On my Mac, I merely enter a rest of the desired duration, then select it and hit (on the Mac keyboard ...) “Command-3.”   (Or:   Notes...Tuplets...Triplet.)   The rest is immediately converted into a triplet of equivalent duration, and away I go.

Start by blocking-out the proper lengths-of-time with rests, then convert each rest into a triplet.

This will change 1 rest int the proper triplet. If you want 4 1/4 note triplets (=3 eighth notes each) the easiest way is to put 4 1/4 rests in the measure, hit ctrl-3 (on windows or your menu method) and all 4 1/4 rests turn into triplet 1/8th rests. You can then copy the measure as many times as you like.
