I must be missing something. You enable panning of the score... does this mean the playback follows the score (pan button enabled, should be called auto-pan or something else), or should you be able to pan the score during playback? (I still detest the naming and reverse logic of the pan button.)
I only really noticed an auto-pan issue when zoomed out above 400%. The issue I saw only came into play when the measure being played was too wide for the window. The blue playback cursor would disappear off the right side of the score for a few seconds, and then once the measure was finished the score would move and the cursor would be back on the left again.

When I enable 'pan', the page doesn't automatically update (played notes go off-screen).

My guess is that the score pans according to the end of the page defined for %100 zoom. That's why every time it pans we are a couple of bars behind.
