Instrument makes a differnt noise

• Dec 29, 2016 - 03:43

So I am working on this arrangement of Eternity Served Cold. https://musescore.com/user/14086581/scores/3144386#comment-3242921

I noticed that in instead of playing reverse cymbal, its playing a piano...it sounds awful.
I went back into musescore and edited it, and in the editor it sounded like a reverse cymbal, so I updated the score, and look! its playing a piano noise instead of a reverse cymbal........please help!

I'll start the response. I downloaded the score and saw that you put snare drum and reverse cymbal on the same line. You then did something to change the channel that the sound is coming from because it should have sounded like a snare drum. If MuseScore does not know what to play it will always play a piano. Why didn't you just make that a cymbal in the instruments then go to the mixer (F10) and change it to reverse cymbal (after unchecking drumset) and also change the name on the staff like you already did (except omit the snare drum). There are no snare drum notes on that line at all.

Then that explains it. I'm not at all familiar with FL Studio. Most imports I have seen have instruments all messed up in the mixer. Yours actually did far better than most of the rest I have seen.

Here's how to fix it.

This first paragraph is actually optional, but it will ensure you know what the mixer is calling your instrument. Right click the snare/cymbal staff, click staff properties and on the right side in the middle is a button that says change instrument. Change the instrument to cymbal. Change the descriptions in the white boxes as you like except the one next to change instrument needs to stay cymbal. OK to close the window

F10 will open the mixer. If you didn't change the top description look for cymbal on the list. Do not use the roller to scroll, drag the slider up and down until you find it. Uncheck the drumset box under it. Under where it says cymbal is a drop down menu that should say cymbal. If you didn't do the first paragraph it should say stereo grand. Click it and press the R button until reverse cymbal shows up. Click "Reverse Cymbal" and close the mixer either with F10 or X out of it. Your music should sound correct now.

If MS knows the name of the instrument it will assign the instrument to the mixer. If the instrument name is different than the instrument list from MS it assigns it to Stereo Grand, which is a piano.

yeah lol i know what you mean, because it picks up the note of the snare into tritones, so it sounds horrible and messes things up. yes the sound gets messed up too ;( in the mixer
