Midi Export
Can you help, I'm trying to export a score to midi but am having problems in the fact that it keeps saving to pdf. I have selected export as a .mid in the drop down box but it keeps saving as a pdf.

Esp. that latter step, upgrade translations, https://musescore.org/en/handbook/language-settings-and-translation-upd…, is needed, due to a bug we had in the original translations, see #41496: MIDI exports as WAV
But if you're on Windows XP, you might have fallen victim of an idiosyncrasy of that OS, you'd need to change the extension in the save dialog 'by hand'

Yes, Vista may have the same Problem. We even documented that, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/saveexportprint#export:
There is a know issue with Windows XP and Vista, there you'd have to manually (un)set the filename's extension, when chosing a different format than last time.
