How to make instrumentgroups inside the score
I made a score for a 17 piece brassband, where I would like to split up the instrumentgroups, but how do I put all the trumpets in one group, and the trombones in another? Right now the barlines in the left side of the score is just going throug all the voices all the way down, and it makes more difficult for the conducter to read.

You mean something like that ?

Probably something like this.
There are two "logics".
1. is to group instruments (1, 2, 3, 4) with brackets and name bracket (Flute). -> feature "name bracket"
or
2. Create instrument (Flute) with multiple staves (1, 2, 3, 4) -> feature "staff name" (not only instrument names, but each staff in one instrument has its own name)

This can't be done in a completely automated method, it takes some manual work. Using the method I have in mind would require manually putting "Flute" or "Fl." on each page if you want the labels included. Change the the long and short instrument names (right click, staff properties) to 1, 2, 3, & 4 then put in a text box for the instrument name. You would want to do this after the entire score is entered, because you will likely have to drag the text boxes around on the page. So start with Page 1, make it perfect, then page 2... Changing anything at all on any page could change the entire thing, so use hard line breaks and page breaks to reduce the chances of MuseScore changing the layout, causing you to have to adjust your work.
If you need to use individual instruments, not additional staffs, because you cannot name each staff, you would end up with one instrument lined up on the visible staffs it applies to.
I don't know if something easier is coming down the pipe in version 3 or not, but that probably won't happen in the next 6 months.
I know this isn't 100% step by step, but looking through the handbook and familiarizing yourself with the terms I used, as needed, should help.
