Lyrics over one note

Hi,
I am new on this forum and maybe my question has been addressed before but I was not able to find the right answer.
I made a song partly in notes and slash noation (Jazz lead-sheet template). Now I am trying to enter the lyrics. However, I don't see any difference in a "space" and Hyphen (-) stroke, both actions will jump to the next note regardles the note value.
Furthermore, I am trying to spread some words in my lyrics over one note, i.e. "blah blah blah" over a two beat note. How do I enter these words? (when I press the space bar, the cursor jumps to the next note).
