Grating Playback

Hi, I'm new to MuseScore. The notation works fine, but when I use the playback feature after a few measures the playback is very slow and grates, making the music sound awful. This applies to the example piece, and even single-voice compositions I've tried have the issue. I've tried the following:

- Reloading
- Small compositions
- Closing all other programs

And I'm using the smallest soundfont available from this site. I'm using Windows7 on a fairly new computer, so I doubt its the computer being slow. So, how do I fix this nagging issue?
