Tie problem.
Can anyone suggest a way to move the ties in the left hand chord so it looks right?
I can't seem to do that!
Whatever I do I seem to get the C and D ties crossing each other which I think is incorrect.

I would recommend putting a little more space between the two tied notes and then turning the C's tie upside down. That should at least help a little.

Fiddle with the note head positioning, flip a tie, lengthen the stem and move the handles of the lower tie up to clear the "flag" of the quaver. Alter the other chords in the same bar to preserve continuity and ease of reading.
Dear ChurchOrganist
There's nothing wrong with crossing ties. Please see the attachment to see if it fits your needs.

Or take this, I changed 2 notes to be on the other side of the stem

Flipping just one set of note heads doesn't seem to scan as easily as changing them all in the same bar.

Underquark's solution seems to be the best in my opinion. Stick to that, ChurchOrganist....

Are you still working on this piece? It's based on a clave called a Tresillo which is the antecedent of the two bar clave called a Son. There is some debate about how it should be written even without the problem of the "seconds" ties in your chords. I prefer to see it written in 8/8 with the implication that it is really a complex time signature (3+3+2), or in 2/2, but not 4/4.
If you still want ties I suggest my bar 1 which is based on etienne-snyman's solution. However, I feel the rhythm is closer to a bar of 6/8 followed by a bar of 2/8, and 6/8 means two dotted crotchets in a bar. So I would use my bar 2 which also solves your ties problems.
Apparently, some musicians prefer the ties so I'm just giving you my opinion. To get the right feel I always teach it to students as if it is a bar of 3 time with three non-equal beats and mark them <> _ _ or > _ _.

?????
It's from Heliotrope Bouqet a rag by Scott Joplin & Louis Chauvin
Nothing to do with Tresillo as far as I know.
And the arrangement for organ is now finished, but not yet uploaded to MuseScore.com :)
But thank you for your input.

Michael
