Palette does not display

Version: 1.1 Revision: 4611 (I just updated it via Ubuntu PPA as per instructions).

OS Ubuntu 11.10

Problem: as of today the palette will not display. (The one with all the tools on). The problem started out as minor (no musical pun intended) and then got progressively worse.

It started out by:

Not being there as usual on the left hand side when I opened MuseScore. Strange. I enabled it in the Display menu and at first was able to use it but it kept undisplaying itself again.

Then the problem got worse. Every time I clicked "display palette" the whole palette did not open but rather just a tiny window showing the X symbol to close it and the square symbol to maximise it. No tools were visible inside the tiny square and maximising it did nothing at all (i.e. it didn't maximise and neither did it make the tools show up that should have been there).

Now it simply will not show at all. When I click display palette nothing appears - not even the empty square.

Help! :-(

Please could some kind person tell me what to do? I was in the middle of something very important and need MuseScore back! :-)

Would it work if I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it again?
