Stems overlapping

I am working with a nightly build - version r64 - and putting down a guitar line (top stave) and the corresponding tabs (bottom stave) for the part. What I am running into is that the stems for the tab are on top of the bottom lines from the top stave.

I have been trying to increment the spacing between the staves but have not been able to succeed. Any suggestions?
