Split measure results in 2 measure rests
When you split a measure before the current note (in the edit|measure menu), the result is 2 measures with measure rests in them. I think that the normal result should be to fill the measure with appropriate rests.
I changed measure 3 in the oboe to a 1/4 rest to show what is actually happening.
This worked in several measures I tried. Has this been previously addressed?

I also changed measure 2 for the oboe to rests, I should have kept it a measure rest for demonstration purposes. This happens in both 2.0.3 and 2.1
A full measure rest *is* a rest of the appropriate length, namely one full measure, however long (or short) it may be.
Don't confuse them with whole rests, which use the same graphical symbol, but a different alignment: whole rest is left aligned, a full measure rest is centered.

The whole measure rest to a musician who does not see the entire score has no way of knowing that these are shorter measures, so they should have the appropriate rests.

That's why selecting the measure and hitting Del does this and not create a full measure rest like for regular measures. I guess it should do this at the time the spilt occurs, automagically

I agree, worth turning into a real feature request in the issue tracker.

It should probably also automagically exclude the cut off part from measure count.
