Jazz Chord Extensions

I know this is probably very simple, but can someone please tell me how to input Jazz Chord extensions so the 9 is smaller...it explains under chord symbols that you can add extensions but it doesn't say how.

Generally in a "9" chord, the dominant 7 is not necessary, it's implied.

However, there are problems with this font. I believe they are being addressed as a new "Jazz" font is being designed.

As mentioned, E79 is not really correct notation, it should be simply E9, and the 7 is implied. The rule is, you stack thirds up to the first number specified. Writing 79 means stack thirds up to the 79th - Writing E79 means an E chord with a 1 3 5 7 9 11 13 15 17 19 21 ... all the way up to 79. I'm sure that's not what you mean :-)

FWIW, if for some reason you need to specify a chord as E7 but with an added thirteenth and *not* the full stack of thirds leading up to it (this is *not* common and should be avoided unless you have a very special reason), the way to notate that would be to put the thirteenth in parentheses. So, E7(13). Again, this is not common and would likely just confuse most musicians, but if you do need to write it, MuseScore at least will understand it and render it as you might want. And so yes, technically, that means you could also write E7(9), but this is really just a less correct way of writing E9.
