playback tempo

• May 29, 2012 - 13:37

I don't know if this is a new topic, as I'm very new to this program. But I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

I just uploaded a score created in musescore, but when I played back the on-line version it was much slower than it should have been. It plays at the correct speed in musescore.org but much slower in musescore.com.

This hasn't happened with my previous few uploads. As it happens this piece was meant to be played at 120, which from what I read is the default speed on musescore.com. It had the tempo indication 'allegretto' at the beginning, which should have indicated in the region of 120. Certainly not slower.

What might I have done wrong?

I don't know exactly where the problem is, but I have some questions:
- have you tried to adjust the tempo in MuseScore (F11 panel), save the score, then upload?
- is there a difference between the online player, and the score that you can download again and open with MuseScore?
- could you post a link to the uploaded score so that we can test whether we see the same effect?

The on-computer file had played at the correct speed, but the on-line file had been very slow.
I opened the score again this morning from my computer, not on line, and when I checked the play panel it was not set at 100 % but at 74%. I don't know when that happened or how.
It had been 100% while I was writing, but I had slowed the tempo down a few times to work on little bits of harmony that didn't sound quite right. Then I'd put the tempo back to 120 each time.
However, I hadn't noticed that the percentage had changed as well as the BPM. So perhaps it was low when I uploaded the score last night. I'm very new to this software, just heard about it a couple of weeks ago, and it's a steep learning curve.
Oddly enough, someone commenting on my score said that it had played at the correct tempo for them. So now I'm really confused.

Thankyou for trying to help.

This is a reply to everyone who has helped me with this.
I finally realised what had happened, thanks to the questions you asked.

While I was working on the score I would save frequently so as not to lose changes. At some point just before I uploaded it I must have saved while the tempo percentage was lower. (The percentage figure is so much fainter than the BPM and I hadn't noticed it.)
When I was satisfied with it and uploaded it the percentage was evidently still low.

I have now re-saved the score and uploaded a fresh copy and it seems to be playing correctly.

What a relief! and thanks to you all for your help. I will pay close attention to this in future.

Hard to say without seeing he score, but I'm going to guess you were playing with the Play Panel tempo scaling factor, which you shouldn't normally do. Leave that set at 100%. To change the actual tempo of your piece, you need to use use Tempo Text elements, as described in the Handbook.
