creating a text style

• Feb 3, 2017 - 14:28

When creating a text style does it matter which template you start with? Can you create the style in any open project and save it?

Once you create a text style can you have the style load when starting any new projects? For example:
C:/Users/Don/Documents/MuseScore2/Styles/myStyle

Can the style also include instrument settings? For example if you want Pipe Organ as a default instrument on any new project? So if I say Load Style it also loads my Pipe Organ?

How can you edit a style once you save it?

You can create text styles from any document you like.

Text styles don't get saved or loaded individually, but they are saved and loaded as part of the general Style / Save Style and Save / Load Style commands, along with all other style settings. To edit a style, simply load it into a score, make your changes normally, and save it again. Or open the MSS file in a text editor and edit the XML yourself if you feel up to it.

If you save a style, you can specify it as the default for new scores created from scratch, by listing it in Edit / Preferences / Score.

However, scores created from template will use the style settings from that template. You could simply load the style file manually after creating the new score from the template, but better to simply create a new template. Which it seems you want to do anyhow - that's what you'd need to do to start off with Pipe Organ already in your score.

So, instead of messing with style files, simply create a score the way you want - with Pipe Organ and/or whatever other instrument(s) you intend to use, whatever style settings you like, etc - then save that score to your Templates folder. Then restart MuseScore. Now every time you go to create a new score, you'll see your template in the Create New Score wizard, and all you have to do is select it, and you'll get a score with all the appropriate instruments and style settings already set up.
