Need help for a custom chord description

• Feb 5, 2017 - 13:57

Hello folks,

last days there was a conversation in this thread:
https://musescore.org/en/node/167196

Let me tell here in short words what was the subject.

Importing a MIDI file in Musescore you automatically get abbreviations as you can see in my attached picture.
Please compare: The upper part is after Sibelius import, the lower one with Musescore.

As there are different abbreviation spellings worldwide I searched one in Musescore that automatically changes all those "maj", "min", "th", ... in a "lighter" one with less letters - which is usually written for example in Yamaha keyboards.
But also Sibelius uses some lighter spellings in notation.

As it seems the solution for my need is a custom chord description.
I am sure that many keyboard players would be happy about such a one.

Below you will find the usual spellings of the YAMAHA keyboard abbreviations in example of root C.

--------------

As you can see, no abbreviation is used in pure major chords.

m= minor

7= 7th, such as chords with the notes C-E-G-Bb oder F-A-C-Eb

M7= Major7, such as chords with the notes C-E-G-B oder F-A-C-E

Ccc is a so-called "Crash Chord" that triggers special effects and mutes the keyboard accompaniment.
This chord is fingereb b 3 neighbour keys such as C, C# and D.
No important info for a chord description, but perhaps interesting?

Unfortunately I think you are misunderstanding what such a chord description file can do. All it will do is "correct" the spelling of chords *as you type them*. It will not have any effect on chord symbols already present in your score as a result of MIDI import. Well, it has some effect, but not as much as you would want. You'll still have to re-enter the chords with your desired spelling.
