Pause before playback
I am experimenting using MuseScore to generate accompaniments for practice
(i.e. silence the solo part and play/sing it). An option to delay the start
of playback for a user-specified number of bars at the start of each section would be very helpful -
maybe with a click or something on each beat as a lead in. This would be in
both on-screen playback and generated audio files. Just a thought ...

There already is a lead-in option. See View / Play Panel.

The option is there, but it's pretty limited. It doesn't stay enabled when the score is closed, and the amount of delay is fixed at one measure. Although I haven't tried it, I suspect that the feature has no effect when exporting as a WAV file (apologies if I should be wrong).
Of course the usual disclaimer about MuseScore being primarily for creating printed scores, with audio playback a secondary concern, still applies.

Thanks for your speedy and helpful reply.
I have already used MuseScore as a practice aid for choral music and, being able to see the music and (re-)position accurately, it is vastly more useful than the normal mp3 files.
Accompaniment recordings have been around for a long time (e.g. the old "Music Minus One" LPs) and now on CD. My first attempt to produce one using MuseScore works very well for practising purposes but the mechanical rendition might not be suitable for busking in public (not that I do that)! As the soloist needs some sort of lead-in, I have added a bar at the beginning with the accompanying cello part quietly playing the main beat. I might add a few extra empty bars to give the player more time to get ready. This was the spur for my suggestion.
Yes, I found the lead-in facility in MuseScore and tried it. It doesn't seem to include the lead-in when exported to a wav file but I think once set it stays for the session even when files are opened and closed. The sound seems to be some sort of drum set, which might not be ideal for all styles and ability to choose sound type would be an advantage. As you say, this isn't the main purpose but even as it is these are useful additional capabilities.
