Pipe Organ - Instrument Name
When I create a Pipe Organ score, it says Man and Ped for the instrument names.
Is this correct?

Thanks.
Long instrument name should be 'Manual' and 'Pedal' (as seen here )? It is 'Man' and 'Ped' for both long and short instrument names.
Is this a bug?

In practice most moden editors don't bother to add staff names at all.
Man. and Ped. is fine for both Long and Short Staff names, given that they'll most likely be removed anyway.

They maybe removed, but perhaps it would be better to provide the long name as a default, in accordance with that score (even though it doesn't have a short name, possibly because there's no other instruments)?
Curiously, how would people know it's a pipe organ to be played if there's nothing at the start? Unless you have a stave text, or something?

I would imagine that it is just like piano - most piano sheet music doesn't say "piano" in front of the first staff, either, because presumably you knew it was piano music when you bought it. Might say something about piano on the cover page. Only in music for *ensembles* in which the piano is but one instrument among many would a staff name be needed. And ensemble music including pipe organ is probably less common.

Yes that's it, and it would be the same for any other music with just one instrument.
You only need to have staff names when the instrument is in ensemble, in which case very often the organ part is reduced to 2 staves to save space.
In reply to Yes that's it, and it would by ChurchOrganist
That's fine.
What about the long and short names though? I think they should be put in for properness - the user can remove them after, if they want.

Agreed. No reason for pipe organ to be a special case here. Piano has long and short names that users may need to delete when creating solo piano music if not using a template, why not pipe organ? Although I've elsewhere suggested / supported the idea that the new score wizard be smart enough to clear these names for scores consisting of only a single instrument.
