I am trying to put a snare drum and bass drum on the same single line. Bass drum on the bottom of the line and the snare drum on the top of the line. But every time I try, it just replaces the whole note itself.

Currently, there is a problem with separating voices in drumsets. You have to explicitly put the bass drum into voice 2 and click the notes at the bottom of the screen. If you press B it will go into voice 1. If you are in voice 2 and press B it won't work right.
All of this is fixed in 2.1 which is available in pre-release under nightlies on the download page. It is very reliable and it's music can be opened in any 2.x version of MS.
Actually the keyboard shortcuts should work just fine. It's the other methods that sometimes don't in certain situations. In order to show you how to best do what you want to do in your particular case, we'd need you to attach the score you are having trouble with and describe more exactly what you are trying to do. First, though, be sure to read the Handbook sections on note input in general and drum notation in particular, also the section on Voices (the musical term for having multiple rhythms on the same staff).
