MIDI drum inputting gets stuck on single type of drum

This happens more than 50% of the time.

When I'm inputting drums with a MiDI keyboard, I have trouble switching from one drum instrument to the next. After I input a note from one drum, the system gets "stuck on that drum" so to speak. Then, no matter what keys I press, the following notes are the same exact drum.

I can "fix" this only by deleting one of the bad notes and starting off on a different drum note (and crossing my fingers that the system doesn't get stuck on that new drum note).

As I said this doesn't happen ALL the time, but definitely enough to bring my work to a standstill.

Even if this problem has been addressed, it's very difficult to find the right search engine terms for it.
