Cleaning up MIDI imports?
I have some MIDI files that I'd really like to put into a MuseScore project. However, I'm getting all sorts of extra rests and such (sometimes even overlapping visually).
The problem is that I can't seem to delete them. It seems like MuseScore is trying to split the tune into four parts, but really it's just a left-and-right hand master staff for a piano... MIDI file in question attached so you can see what I mean.
Thank you

When I import it into 2.1-RC I see only one part with 2 staves, a plain and normal Piano
You'd probably need to quantisize the midi.
You can delete all non-voice 1 rests.
With four parts I suppose you mean four voices (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/voices)?
It's possible to change several options in midi import panel (also the number of voices, I didn't really try out, if it make sense in your attached example):

yeah, this is what I'll have to do. Thank you
Just because a piece is written on two staves doesn't mean it can't contain more than two independent rhythms. And if there is more than one independent rhythm on a staff, you need multiple voices to notate it. And if one of those independent rhythms doesn't continue throughout the measure, rests are normally necessary to show the rhythm clearly.
So there is nothing particular unusual about about an imported MIDI file needing these type of rests in order to be notationally correct. If there is a particular measure where you feel this shouldn't have been necessary, please explain in more detail. But as it is, everything looks to be in order to me. There are all sorts of staggered note entrances - one note being played before another on the same staff finishes - and these by definition require multiple voices to notate correctly. In order to make a version of this that requires only one voice er staff, you'd have to make sure no note is held past when the next note starts.

I see that now, it just needed to be pointed out (still a freshman theory student). All fixed up now! Thank you
This MIDI file is not as smooth as it should be with Import.
I listened to Melody and looked at the logic of the piece.
After all, I guess it can be written like this. (May contain errors, but more or less like this.)
It sounds more like a "MusicBox" than a "Piano".
Edit: PS: I didn't use any key signature. If you want to add, this piece is in Cm (3b). If you want to add a tempo, it sounds good in "(quarter-note)=74".
